Restorative dentistry is the science (and art) of repairing broken down teeth or replacing those that have been lost. The goal of all restorative dentists is to produce restorations that perfectly match those structures they are trying to replace. Not only should the appearance be improved, but the function, and above all the health of the oral environment.

Critical to the design of all restorations is the ease with which they can be looked after. Restorative dentistry does not cure dental disease; it is the home care afterwards that ensures long term success.
